I’m going to keep this pithy and to the point—tonight’s SEINFELD Quiz at the Highball far exceeded anyone’s expectations. Seriously, got in at about 7pm and there were already fourteen teams seated, with more pouring in. I knew it’d be a crazy night. By the end of the night FIFTY FIVE TEAMS were on my scoresheet. Wow, that nearly three times as many might show up on a normal night. If there was a flat surface you guys made use of it. Amazing.
We had a lot of fun tonight, Austin. This blog entry will mostly consist of thank yous because many go around. First, thank you to my scorekeeper James Pound, who is astonishingly fast at scoring and keeping shit moving. Then, thank you to my recruited scorekeepers/data entry artists—Tara, Heather and Andy, who volunteered for no good reason than to be pals. You guys and James kept this from lasting until midnight AND freed me up to work with the audience. Also, Tara (and Erin and Christine), thanks for the brownies. They are fucking delicious and turned out to be my dinner tonight. Nom nom nom.
Big thank yous to the entire Highball staff, who probably anticipated a turnout about half this size (and you weren’t alone). A turnout half this size would have been awesome and kept you busy, but you made it happen and kept the food and drinks flowing. Rounds of applause aren’t enough, I hope you made big dollar bills tonight from our awesome crowd. Particular thanks to our gal Sarah for keeping us hydrated without being asked.
Giant thanks to my bosses at Geeks Who Drink, the guys that put these quizzes together. They were the ones that gave the Highball the Seinfeld Quiz, they were the ones who put the rounds together, and they did a TON of advertising to get the word out.
Thanks to Henri and Kristin at the Alamo Drafthouse for some last minute schwag hookups. Folks, I still have Zombieland hand sanitizer to give away. Stay tuned. Thanks to my dad, who once worked at a TV station that carried Seinfeld, for giving me that hat that didn’t fit that I was able to give away to one particularly talented dancer.
Thanks to the folks with the Austin Chronicle, particularly Logan AKA Chrontourage for pimping this mother on Twitter and elsewhere online. Thanks to Austinist for placing us on the IST List. Thanks for AV Club Austin for the Twitter plug. Thanks to Jason Dick from 101x for his Twitter plug and anyone else in local media who either myself, Geeks Who Drink staff or the Highball got the word to and relayed it to their followers.
Thanks to Evelyn and Chelsea for their preshow assistance and Evelyn in particular for her quick Excel work. Thanks to all the Austin GWD quizmasters who loaned us some of their teams for tonight.
Finally, thanks to everyone that came out tonight. If I had to guess, we had probably 200-250 attendees, which is CRAZY. For many of you it was your first quiz and I hope it won’t be your last. You were patient with me as our staff scored and tabulated and you hung with me as I came up with shit to do on the spot. It was FUN TONIGHT and it’s all thanks to you.
Alright, below I’ve posted some pictures from tonight— I wish I could have gotten more, but y’alls kept me busy. The first one was taken by the inimitable Heather Kennedy, the rest are myself. If you hit our Facebook page you’ll see three videos of the Elaine dance-off taken by Matt Dailey and a recording of our runner up in the karaoke contest with his crazy beatbox version of George’s answering machine. Glorious! If you took pictures or video of tonight’s festivities, won’t you post them as well?
I love you, see you next week. Contact me direct via Twitter or email me at bemistape at g mail dot com.

Our first place winners, Chicken Salad On Rye. I’ve never seen any group so surprised to win.

Second place by sudden death round, Mr. Marbles and the Hoochie Mamas.

Third place—they can honestly blame it on coming in first in the rock-paper-scissors match, The Super Terrific Happy Hour.
