Highball Ballroom, April 11, 9:00 PM, $10
Academy Award nominated actress, Susan Tyrrell, began painting at the age of 36. She’s now 65 and we’ve decided to show off her stuff!
She spent the last 45 years performing in theaters in NYC and on film (Cry Baby, Andy Warhol’s Bad, Forbidden Zone) in many parts of the world. She is fiercely weird! No boners about that! Her pieces are just big ass cartoons. Big ass erotic, make-you-cringe-and-wanna-drink cartoons! As a newcomer to the Austin scene, she fits in just fine. Just pretend you don’t know her and she won’t attack, much.
Her show is set to follow a screening of the unforgettable Forbidden Zone next door, tenderly colorized from its original black and white. Whatever, WHATEVER would entice you to go out and see this film, consider it said. This picture belongs in your brain bank! This film is an animated, live-action musical that kicks ass thanks to Danny Elfman!
You can meet the (still living!) legend behind the madness on-screen and on-canvas yourself for the screening of Forbidden Zone at the Alamo Drafthouse South, April 11th, then join us for the art show and after party featuring The Octopus Project here at the Highball!
If you’d like to purchase a ticket for the Forbidden Zone screening, you can get them here! $10 gets you into the screening alone, $12 gets you into the screening and artshow, and if you purchase tickets below, those will just get you into the art show!
